Why can change stop you instead of propelling you?
Because it's possible that if you want to grow bigtime, you are looking for big changes. It is understandable and what I'm about to tell you is counterintuitive, but effective: big growth occurs more effectively when you take small steps.
To take firm and solid steps, you need them to be short. Think about it like this: When you walk it gives you time to respond to the new terrain conditions. With every step you take you advance and the environment changes...you change too. When you walk it gives you time to understand your situation, your physical and mental state, and your surroundings. When you run, your responsiveness is affected and the likelihood of managing your resources and efforts correctly decreases. When you walk you can make informed decisions, allowing you to respond wisely. When you run, most of the time you react and you have to be alert to make the best decision.
But you cannot always be alert nor can you enjoy the luxury of the time it takes to walk instead of runnning. Then, the temptation to quicken your pace almost always wins and you run. What do you think would happen if, instead of running and instead of walking, you could pause to plan, manage your resources, and focus your efforts? You would surely achieve more in less time and with less wear and tear.
Trust me, I've seen it many times. Do you know what the number one impediment is to taking this pause that I'm telling you about? "I don't have time." If this is also your impediment, I have news for you: This impediment exists precisely because you have not paused; that means this is your best time to do it.
Change can stop you instead of propelling you when you react to the changes in the environment instead of leveraging them, one at a time, to propel you forward.
What's the risk of getting stuck in the vicious circle of looking for solutions to overcome resistance to change?
This is another counterintuitive but effective idea: An obsessed mind cannot focus.
We attract more of what we focus on, not because just thinking about it makes our desires come true, but because when we think about it our emotions and actions change. If you focus on the bad, you are taking away space from the good, if you focus on the problem, you are closing the door to the solution.
When you obsessively search for solutions, you are unconsciously thinking about the problem that you want to solve. That doesn't mean that you ignore the problem, what it does mean is that you approach it from a different angle so that your mind finds the space and resources you need so to build the solution.
Has it happened to you that when you move away and your perspective changes, you see things that you didn't see before? The same thing happens when you stop obsessing yourself looking for a solution. Zooming out to improve your view of the issue is helpful, and getting the perspective of others is even better.
What feelings can arise if you remain in the vicious cycle of looking for solutions without finding them? Confusion, despair, burnout, frustration, stagnation.
What do you need in this case? Be willing to defocus on what causes you obsession and stops you in order to focus on what helps you move forward without losing the breadth of your vision.
Obsession gets you stuck in the vicious circle of looking for solutions to try and overcome resistance to change; the risk is stagnation.
Why might it be that, even though you grow, you don't achieve fulfillment and prosperity?
Changing and growing isn't just about you, it's also about those around you.
If you try to change to grow on your own without involving others, the possibility of failure is enormous. Nobody makes it on their own. We all need others to grow because the greatest and most comforting growth is shared growth.
When you grow and others grow, you feel fulfilled and prosperous. When you try to move forward on your own instead of including others in your plan, a feeling of emptiness can come over you. Like when you have everything but you're not happy. That can make you abandon your dreams.
Your growth also encompasses your relationships, starting with the most important of all: your relationship with yourself. What can you do to relate better? What should you do to stay in healthy relationships? How can you realize what's stopping you from moving forward?
You may not achieve the fulfillment and prosperity you want if you leave these questions unresolved because growing is not just about you. Take care of this: Give the best in you and help others do the same.
